My son got an almost instant flat spot when he was born. Turning his head when I laid him down or putting him on a slight angle in the opposite direction didn’t help either. I would go in 5 minutes later and his head would be back to the flat spot.

My doctor referred us to a physiotherapist. It turns out that he favoured his head in that position because his neck muscles weren’t as flexible on one side as the other. We were given a series of exercises to do with him. A helmet wasn’t really an option for us since he wasn’t severely flat yet. I would consider it the final option.

The helmet will keep his head from flattening further and the flat spot may diminish a little as well but my son has a definite flat spot to this day. He is 5 now and his hair covers it nicely… If I had seen that halo pillow you are talking about, I would have tried that! The little wedge didn’t work for us…
